Rusev Reveals the Reason Why WWE Turned Down a Match With Kurt Angle

Rusev was released from WWE back in April and hasn’t returned to the Squared Circle, despite his 90-day non-compete clause expiring in July.

The Bulgarian Brute has been quite active on online platforms and has shared several interesting stories from his time in the company.

Rusev revealed an idea on his YouTube channel that he shared with WWE in 2014, during his epic run with the US title.

Rusev went over a year undefeated before he was taken down by Cena at WrestleMania 31.

Rusev wanted to face Kurt Angle at WrestleMania, but WWE officials said that they were afraid of Angle ‘dying’ if they brought him back.

Rusev felt that his foreign heel gimmick would have worked brilliantly with Angle, who returned to WWE two years later in 2017 and had a retirement match with Baron Corbin at WrestleMania 35 last year.

“I talked to two people. I’m not going to say who they are, but I talked to two people and they are really high up there. I said, ‘How about we bring back Kurt? It’s going to be great. One, he’s the greatest professional wrestler ever. Two, it’s USA coming back and I’m doing the Russian thing.’ Kurt would have been the perfect person, but they told me no. This is verbatim from the person that told me. He said, ‘We don’t want to feel responsible if he comes back and dies.’ That’s from the person that told me. There were two people there. If one says I’m lying, hopefully the other will stand up and say it’s true. In the end, he got that match with Corbin, but I always wanted to wrestle Kurt.”

Rusev went on to praise Angle who recently adopted a kid from Rusev’s home country of Bulgaria.
