Sami Zayn hasn’t wrestled on WWE TV since June 25th, when he was part of a six-man Tag Team Match on SmackDown Live. The former NXT Champion has seemingly been written off WWE TV over the past few weeks since his former friend Kevin Owens has now turned face and left him behind.
Zayn’s absence leading into Extreme Rules has been noticeable and he could easily have been the man who knocked on Aleister Black’s door but instead it was Cesaro that was chosen to be the first victim on Black’s list on SmackDown Live.
Zayn is obviously taking his time on the sidelines seriously and recently responded to a fan’s Tweet where he teased a match against Intercontinental Champion Finn Balor at next month’s SummerSlam pay-per-view.
Zayn later deleted the Tweet, which could be on the orders of WWE officials, since Balor seems to be tied up for the next few weeks in a feud with another former NXT Champion in Shinsuke Nakamura.
While it is an odd thing for Zayn to Tweet out, it’s certainly something that has grabbed the attention of the WWE Universe. The Critic of The Critics has had his say about the fans who follow the product ever since his return earlier this year which means that this could easily be his way of playing mind games once again.
Zayn is expected to return to WWE after Extreme Rules since there was no feud for him heading into the event, but he could easily slot into a rivalry ahead of The Biggest Party of the Summer if the company has pressing plans for him.
Zayn himself could have sent this message out in the hopes that he would gain a SummerSlam match from it, but it does beg the question that if that was Zayn’s last text message, then who was he sending it to?
