This week’s episode of SmackDown saw the current WWE Intercontinental Champion Sami Zayn retain his title against Daniel Bryan.
Zayn, who has been disparaging Bryan and other WWE talents who seem to have Intercontinental Championship ambitions, won the match by “outsmarting” Bryan. Zayn tricked Bryan into getting counted out, resulting in his retaining the Intercontinental Champion.
Despite his “heelish” tactics and words regarding the multiple-time WWE Champion Bryan on-screen, off-screen Zayn has nothing but respect for Bryan.
In a recent Tweet, Zayn stated that even though he “ran his mouth” and talked trash about Bryan it was a privilege to be able to be in the ring with him.
“You never know if or when it might happen again,” said Zayn. “He is, in my opinion, the best in ring performer of our generation.”
“Still it should be noted, I won the match,” ended Zayn, staying in “heel” character.
While a Bryan vs Zayn feud for the Intercontinental Championship would be welcomed by fans, it should be noted that Bryan is reportedly set to feud with Universal Championship Roman Reigns next year.
Meanwhile, Zayn’s next challenger for his championship looks to be Big E. The two had a run-in backstage during SmackDown where it was brought up that Big E was a previous Intercontinental Champion holder and wouldn’t mind becoming one again.
