Samoa Joe wins his first main roster title
Samoa Joe won his first major main roster title as he pinned Andrade to become the new WWE United States Champion this week on SmackDown Live.
R-Truth issued an open challenge for the title hoping for a singles defense but ended up getting booked in a Fatal 4-Way match against three vicious Superstars namely Rey Mysterio, Andrade and Joe, all aiming for the championship gold.
It’s been over 2 years that The Destroyer had been walking around without a title since his main roster debut on January 2017.
With the title now resting on Joe’s shoulders, it would be interesting to see which Superstar steps up to the daring task of dethroning the big man at WrestleMania.
Cesaro reveals SmackDown has more potential than Raw
During a recent interview with The Citizens’ Voice, multi-time WWE Tag Team Champion Cesaro expressed his thoughts on SmackDown being more exciting than RAW.
“For us, it’s the same. We want to be on top of both shows. We were a cornerstone of Raw, we are a cornerstone of SmackDown. We are the best team, that’s what we want to prove. That’s always our goal.”
“SmackDown has a lot of potential. SmackDown, I feel, has more excitement than Raw even though Raw is always branded as the flagship show. But I think there’s a lot of excitement on SmackDown, there’s more focus on the wrestling aspect. With the new TV deal kicking in in November, I have high hopes for SmackDown.”
Cesaro’s opinion could be the beginning of WWE’s plan of heavily promoting the blue brand before it moves to FOX this fall.
As reported earlier, FOX has specifically asked WWE to pack more sports and less comedy in the 2-hour-long show as the broadcasting network intends to cross-promote the product.
