In 2016, Sammy Guevara had made some derogatory comments about Sasha Banks during a podcast appearance, and the clip recently went viral on the internet.

As part of the #SpeakingOut movement, Guevara received huge fan backlash and it didn’t take long for the AEW higher-ups to take immediate action against the young star.

While Guevara did apologize to Banks, it wasn’t enough to save him from another racist joke he had made on that podcast. AEW thereafter suspended The Spanish God without pay for an indefinite period.

During a recent interview with Sports Illustrated’s Justin Barrasso, The Boss addressed her recent controversy with the AEW star.

“As you can see on social media, I left my comment out there; I made my statement. I don’t feel like I need to touch upon it any more than I did, but as a role model, I have to lead by example. I can’t show hate with hate. I only can show through education, dignity, and integrity.”

Guevara was quick to post an apology video on YouTube immediately after his suspension. The Inner Circle member has agreed to undergo sensitivity training, and as of this writing, there are no updates on his return date.

“We all have a journey and a story, and we’re able to tell people what we’ve overcome. No one’s perfect, no one’s had an easy road or an easy life, but overcoming difficulty makes us who we are. I’m so thankful for everything that I’ve ever been through since I was a kid. If I didn’t go through those things, I wouldn’t be the strongest person I’ve ever been in my whole life.”

Guevara would have been part of Fyter Fest had it not been for his suspension. As for Banks, she suffered a loss at the hands of Io Shirai last night at WWE NXT The Great American Bash.
