Kevin Owens challenged Shane McMahon to a Ladder Match, with the winner staying in WWE while the loser leaves town. WWE confirmed the match after the show, and it will take place next Friday, on the debut episode of Friday Night SmackDown on FOX.
It is no secret that WWE is going all out for the FOX debut, with major matches and several legends returning for the show. The debut episode will also serve as SmackDown’s 20th Anniversary Episode, which will feature a host of superstars from the previous eras.
Kevin Owens and Shane McMahon’s long-standing rivalry could reach its conclusion next week, as FOX is trying to create a sports-oriented show which could result in McMahon’s departure from WWE television.
Kevin Owens was fired by Shane McMahon two weeks ago, following which Owens filed a wrongful termination lawsuit against the junior McMahon. Shane tried to negotiate with Owens in the main event of SmackDown, but Owens refused and challenged him to a match instead.
Owens and Shane’s rivalry initially started in 2017, after Owens’ attack on Vince McMahon. The rivalry went on for close to eight months and culminated at WrestleMania 34.
Their current feud began a few months ago after Kevin Owens underwent a character change and WWE tried to recreate the Stone Cold-Vince McMahon story from two decades ago.
Other matches announced for the huge debut include Kofi Kingston defending his WWE Championship against the Beast Incarnate, Brock Lesnar. The Four Horsewomen of WWE will also compete at the inaugural episode when Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair team up to take on the Boss N’ Hug Connection.
Superstars like Stone Cold Steve Austin, Ric Flair, Hulk Hogan, Undertaker, Trish Stratus, Goldberg, Sting, and Kurt Angle will also return for the much-anticipated premiere of Friday Night SmackDown.
The blue brand’s debut looks absolutely stacked on paper, and hopefully, WWE delivers a spectacular show to start things off on Friday nights!
