Earlier this week, PWInsider broke the news that two Impact veterans were expected to make the jump to the WWE.
Sonjay Dutt and Impact Wrestling Hall of Famer Abyss have indeed been confirmed to have left Impact for the WWE. Initial speculation was the two men would be taking up a behind-the-scenes role in NXT, joining another Impact transplant, Jeremy Borash.
Now, reports say that while the two will indeed be taking backstage roles, it will be on the main roster shows.
According to Mike Johnson, reporting on PWInsider Elite audio, the belief is that Abyss and Dutt will be working on the main roster as producers.
“A lot of people expected them to go to NXT and while they may go to NXT to work in the Performance Center to become more familiar with the WWE system, the expectation is that each of them will end up on the main roster as producers,” said Johnson.
Abyss is a long-timer with Impact, starting out with the company back in 2002 when they were TNA. He has won all the major championships at least once, including holding the tag team championships twice – once with AJ Styles.
Dutt is a wrestler and color commentator who has mostly worked with TNA, Global Force Wrestling, Ring of Honor, and Combat Zone Wrestling, among others. In his last run with Impact, he won their X Division Championship. After undergoing surgery to fix a torn Achilles in 2018, Dutt mostly stuck to producing and commentating till he was granted his release.
