SmackDown 1000 was a fantastic night of entertainment which included Rey Mysterio making his return to WWE and familiar faces like Edge, Teddy Long, Batista, Ric Flair, Vickie Guerrero, and Jerry Lawler being given the chance to return and celebrate.
One face that was a notable absentee was The Rock, who many fans believed would be in attendance in Washington, DC to celebrate the 1000th episode of a show that was named after his famous catchphrase.
Instead, The Rock sent out a Tweet that was shown on the titantron and was then not mentioned again, which was something of a letdown for the WWE Universe, but speculation suggests that the current issues surrounding WWE could have been the main reason why The Rock wasn’t prepared to make his return.
Huge #SD1000 congrats to my @WWE family!
Fun fact, in 1998, I said to @VinceMcMahon “I’m gonna use the word ‘Smackdown’ tonight in my promo”. He said what’s that mean? I said it means I’m gonna whup some ass. He belly laughed and said say it!
The rest was history! #IfYaSmell ? https://t.co/IVXI0WkkGl

Dave Scherer said on PW Insider Elite audio that he believes the current controversy surrounding Saudi Arabia and Crown Jewel could be one of the reasons why The Rock opted to miss the celebrations and maintain his distance.
“One thing everyone needs to consider is where The Rock’s concern is,” Scherer said via Ringsidenews. “I’ll bet ya he thought about it, and I’ll bet ya as soon as this Saudi Arabia thing happened he said, ‘I’m one of the top box office draws in the world. I just can’t be associated with WWE right now.”
Of course, there could be a number of reasons why The Rock chose not to be in attendance on Tuesday night with the simplest one being that he’s a very busy man. Only the 10-time Champion will know his real reasons and hopefully, these will change in the coming months if he’s expected to return at The Royal Rumble.
