Sting No Longer Under Contract With WWE, Sami Zayn Responds To Being Stripped Of The Intercontinental Championship

Despite not being an active part of WWE storylines over the past five years, Sting has remained under contract with WWE and the company has since been able to release merchandise of the former WCW legend.

According to Pro Wrestling Sheet, Sting’s contract with WWE has now expired and the company has pulled all figures of Sting from their upcoming releases. This means that The Icon is now free to sign with any other company. There have been rumors that Sting could be the star that hands the TNT Championship to the winner of the Lancer Archer vs Cody at their Double or Nothing pay-per-view but this is also unconfirmed.

There have been recent interactions between Sting and Cody on Twitter, but it’s thought that Cody is just gaining some exposure for AEW and hyping up the fact that Sting could join AEW, even though it’s not expected.

One WWE star who is still under contract with WWE is Sami Zayn, even though Zayn hasn’t appeared on WWE TV for a number of weeks. It was reported earlier in the week that if Zayn didn’t make his return to WWE TV this week then he would be stripped of his title and it’s now been announced by WWE that a tournament to crown a new Champion will begin this week on SmackDown.

Zayn recently Tweeted to state that he had his wisdom teeth removed which is why he was absent from WWE TV and he doesn’t seem happy with the latest development. Zayn responded to WWE’s announcement and made it clear that whoever wins the tournament won’t be the true Intercontinental Champion since he will still be Champion because he never lost the title.

At present it’s unknown what Zayn’s absence means for Shinsuke Nakamura and Cesaro, who were being managed by The Liberator a few weeks ago.
