Reigning NXT Tag Team Champions Street Profits made their main roster debut last week on Monday Night RAW courtesy of a Paul Heyman decision.
Last night on RAW, Montez Ford and Angelo Dawkins again cut a backstage promo to predict the winners of the Extreme Rules pay-per-view that takes place this Sunday. The champs hyped the two top matches on the card – Seth Rollins & Becky Lynch vs. Baron Corbin & Lacey Evans, and, The Undertaker & Roman Reigns vs. Shane McMahon & Drew McIntyre.
On PW Insider Elite audio, Mike Johnson revealed that Ford and Dawkins cut their promo live on RAW. The idea was to capture the moment and let the audience feel the electrifying energy.
“We had the Street Profits backstage and they got all excited because they realized they were on camera. They did some kind of Flavor Flav hypeman deal talking about Roman Reigns, The Undertaker and Shane McMahon and Drew McIntyre at Extreme Rules.”
“Roman’s gotta make it through RAW to get to Sunday, they were extremely entertaining. I was told that they actually did the Street Profits stuff live. They didn’t want it to be canned, they wanted it to be electric and live in the moment and that was a decision that was made.”
WWE does have a 7-second delay for its live airing but nothing can be done when a Superstar spills the wrong words or forgets his lines during a live promo. There’s no way to fire back with a different energy as there’s no retake or tweaking option during live segments.
It’s interesting to see Street Profits making an early debut on the main roster despite being signed to NXT. This is actually a great move on part of WWE for gauging fan reactions and testing the waters before officially un-caging Ford and Dawkins on RAW.
