Taz brought back the FTW Championship this week on Fyter Fest and placed it around the waist of his client, Brian Cage. Cage, who was supposed to face Jon Moxley this week for the AEW World Championship, didn’t go empty-handed as Taz made sure his client has momentum going into next week’s title match.
Taz introduced the FTW Championship in 1998, as he was frustrated for not receiving title shots in ECW.
The title was in force for a year before Taz unified it with the ECW World Heavyweight Championship. The FTW Championship was only held by Sabu apart from Taz in ECW.
Tony Khan promised a huge announcement that will send shockwaves throughout the wrestling industry, referring to the return of the FTW Championship.
It remains to be seen if Cage actually defends the title or is it merely a prop to make him seem important.
Cage won the Ladder Match on his debut at Double or Nothing to earn a title shot against Moxley. The fight was supposed to main-event Night Two of Fyter Fest. However, Moxley’s wife, WWE presenter Renee Young, caught the coronavirus, forcing Moxley to stay at home.
Their match was delayed for a week and will now take place at AEW Fight for the Fallen on July 15th.
