The Ascension didn’t find much success during their time on the main-roster with WWE, and the duo is looking to make a name for themselves on the independent scene.
After being released in November last year, the duo looked to join the indie scene and had a series of bookings lined up after their no-compete clause came to an end in February. However, the COVID-19 situation derailed these plans.
The duo talked to Wrestlezone recently and revealed their plans for the indie scene. Viktor and Big Kon said that they were looking for alternative names and initially thought about FKA, before settling on The Awakening.
“We just got our new name basically, thankfully enough. We were going to use ‘FKA’ for the time being just because we liked that. We knew everybody just knew us as The Ascension for the longest time, and to jump off [of that], we couldn’t really figure it out for a while.”
“The Awakening. It’s like it’s the next step up from The Ascension. It’s still got that connection so the fans can understand it and it’s something that Vik and I think is badass regardless.”
The Ascension debuted in WWE in 2013, and after a dominant run on the NXT brand, moved to the main roster at the start of 2015. Their gimmick was dead on arrival and they never recovered, ending their stint without any titles on the main roster.
