Third Mae Young Classic Being Advertised For November

It looks like the all-women Mae Young Classic will be returning for a third run before the year ends.

Wrestling Inc. is reporting that the NXT ticketing website has begun advertising the return of the Mae Young Classic. The website states that the tournament will be featured during the NXT tapings at Full Sail Live for November 2 and 3 in Winter Park, Florida.

The Mae Young Classic has been held twice before, in 2017 and 2018, and has served as a showcase for up and coming independent female wrestlers from around the world. The winners, as well as many of the participants, are eventually offered contracts and places in NXT.

The first Mae Young Classic winner Kairi Sane is a former NXT women’s champion and is currently part of the main roster. Her final opponent was Shayna Baszler who is the current NXT women’s champion.

The second tournament was won by Toni Storm, who beat Io Shirai. Storm is currently with NXT UK, while Shirai remains in NXT.

The third round of the Mae Young Classic was first hinted at back in August. Triple H himself said that the tournament would be returning, it would just be a little later in the year than the previous tournaments were held.

The reason given for the change in the tournament schedules were the “massive shifts” in programming schedules due to the new developments with Fox and the USA Network.

“There’s tons of things happening all at once and then right after that, you’re shifting into the Fox and USA shifts, which are epic events in and of themselves. There’s so much planning that’s going around it, so some of it just got delayed until a little bit later in the year,” said Triple H.

There has yet to be official word as to how and when the third Mae Young Classic Tournament will be aired or streamed.
