Current NXT UK Superstar and winner of the second Mae Young Classic, Toni Storm, revealed who among the WWE women superstars is currently her biggest inspiration.
“Becky Lynch is currently my biggest inspiration,” said Storm during an interview with Express.co.uk.
“She is taking the women’s division to a completely different level. Her strengths and her fire are definitely inspiring me right now. I hope to eventually step into the ring with her because I feel the biggest competition at the moment is Becky Lynch,” said Storm.
The New Zealander made her debut with the WWE during the first Mae Young Classic in 2017. Though she only made it to the quarter finals,she was impressive enough to be offered a WWE contract. She also participated in the United Kingdom Championship Tournament where she emerged victorious to become the number 1 contender for the NXT Women’s Championship.
Storm was unsuccessful in her bout with then champion Shayna Baszler and went on to attempt to win the inaugural NXT UK Women’s Championship. She lost to Rhea Ripley and was then announced as a participant in the 2018 Mae Young Classic.
Storm emerged victorious on her second attempt at the Mae Young Classic, defeating Io Shirai. She is now mostly seen on NXT UK.
Storm’s victory at the Mae Young Classic guaranteed her a title shot at any championship she wanted and, during the latest episode of NXT UK, she revealed the championship she was gunning for – the NXT UK Women’s championship.
Storm came to the ring after General Manager Johnny Saint made the announcement of NXT UK TakeOver: Blackpool taking place on January 2019. Storm announced her intention and desire to face current NXT UK Women’s champ Rhea Ripley during the newly announced TakeOver event. Saint approved the match.
