The rumor mill has been buzzing in recent weeks with the news that CM Punk could be looking to make his return to WWE after almost six years away.
The self-proclaimed “Best In The World” has moved into both MMA and acting since he walked away from WWE back in 2014, but it appears that the former World Champion could be eyeing a WWE return since he recently tested for an on-air position on WWE Backstage which debuted last week.
Punk has had some very public issues with WWE over the years, mainly with WWE COO Triple H, whom Punk would have faced at WrestleMania 30 if he remained with the company heading into the show. That being said, The Game himself has weighed in on the possibility of Punk making his return to the company he once headlined and even Triple H isn’t denying that a return could happen.
As part of a recent appearance on Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show, The Game made some interesting comments.
“That’s a ‘could be’. Vince will say it all the time: ‘We’re open for business’. The past is passed, today is today and you never say never in WWE.”
CM Punk himself noted back at Starrcast back in August that he’s ready to listen to WWE if they called, but it’s thought that Punk would cost the company a substantial amount if they were to ask him to return.
Wrestling is a strange business, but at its core, it is a business and even though Triple H, Vince McMahon and CM Punk don’t all see eye to eye, the three men would find a way to co-exist if they thought it was best for business.
Punk always had such a talent in the ring and on the mic and if he returns as part of WWE Backstage then he will once again be able to show off his impeccable promo ability.
