During a recent media call, WWE COO Triple H talked about the speculation that there will be an additional singles title for NXT UK.
According to Hunter, he doesn’t like the term “mid-card title” and doesn’t see the need for an additional title for NXT UK, though he doesn’t rule out the possibility for the future.
“I don’t like the term ‘mid-card title’. I feel like why don’t you just call it ‘the title that you aren’t good enough to get to the other one, you take that one’? It sounds terrible,” Hunter said.
“I don’t see the need for [an additional singles title] at this time. I know that’s been speculated a lot about because, I don’t know, somebody put the idea on the internet, I think, and then everybody just ran with it. I don’t necessarily see it at this time but I’m also not opposed to it, and maybe very shortly down the line, that is an opportunity,” he added.
Hunter also said that it was important to have talent and give them opportunities but another championship is not necessarily the right way to go about that.
“You don’t just have a championship for the sake of having a championship but it really doesn’t mean anything. If it gets confusing and there’s just too many, then that doesn’t do any good either,” he said.
Triple H also mentioned that there would be crossover between NXT, NXT UK, and 205 Live. NXT, he said, would have a blend of stars from these three shows to allow the performer to have more exposure. He also said that the upcoming draft in the main roster would give SmackDown and RAW permanent rosters.
