WWE’s Executive Vice President of Talent, Live Events and Creative, Paul “Triple H” Levesque has single-handedly taken NXT to a whole new level – today the developmental brand can go head to head with the likes of ROH, NJPW, Impact and we’re not even talking about WWE’s main roster!
Over the past few years, NXT storylines have been the talk of the WWE Universe – not only are the feuds fresh and intriguing, but the overall storytelling is sometimes so good that WWE simply replicates them on the main roster to boost viewership.
A large portion of NXT’s success can be attributed to the fact that it’s an hour-long weekly show unlike 3 hours of RAW and 2 hours of SmackDown where the creative has to cram through ideas and burn through whatever comes at hand to produce mass amounts of content.
On WWE PC’s YouTube channel, Hunter revealed that there are plans to run long-term storylines on NXT while drawing comparisons between the developmental brand and the main roster.
“There’s intention there to run long-term storylines and to keep those story arcs going when you can. But some of it is just how it ended up because we have the luxury of not having to write 3 hours of live television every week or get through multiple hours of [TV] with multiple pay-per-views in a short period of time. When you have a monthly pay-per-view and 3 hours of live TV every week, like you do with a RAW, that is an exponentially different way of writing that makes you have to go through stuff faster and burn through things. When you can do it on a much more one hour, a much slower pace and you can tell that story where you’re not bombarded at all times, you can make that last a lot longer and draw it out over time.”
