Trish Stratus is now a WWE Hall of Famer and a former seven-time Women’s Champion, but the women of WWE haven’t always been part of a revolution that has allowed them to fight on par with the men. Instead, there was a time when bra and panties matches were the norm and many contests were settled in an evening gown competition or in the mud.
Stratus wasn’t seen as a regular diva at that time so she wasn’t forced to wrestle in as many mud matches as other women on the roster, but there is one famous one where the former Women’s Champion took on Stacy Keibler on Raw back in 2002.
Stratus opened up about her response to being told she would have to be part of a mud match on the most recent episode of Ring The Belle where she revealed that she tries to make the best out of every situation.
“To me, it was always to make the best of it. I had a gravy match, like a gravy match, really? I was like, ‘Okay, I’ll do this gravy match if I can be thrown off the top ramp into the mud,” she said via Ringsidenews.
Stratus and Lita have since become icons of the business and have been able to make numerous returns to the company over the years.
Most recently the two women were name-dropped by Bayley and Sasha Banks on Monday Night Raw where they requested a match at WrestleMania against Team Bestie, which has many fans convinced that Trish and Lita could be returning to WWE in the coming months as part of the second annual all-women’s Royal Rumble match.
