Shinsuke Nakamura hasn’t been forced to defend his United States Championship on pay-per-view for a number of months since he wasn’t part of Super Show-Down and the women recently took center stage, but following his recent victory over R-Truth on SmackDown Live, he is once again being forced to defend his Championship at Crown Jewel.
Rusev fought The Miz for a place in the WWE World Cup a few weeks ago in a losing effort and when it was revealed that Daniel Bryan wouldn’t be part of Crown Jewel for his own personal reasons, it was thought that The Bulgarian Brute would replace him in the WWE Championship match but that obviously wasn’t the case.
Instead, Samoa Joe will now be fighting AJ Styles for the WWE Championship as the duo rehash their bitter rivalry and Rusev will step in to challenge Shinsuke Nakamura for the United States Championship on the kickoff show.
Rusev has a long history with the United States Championship and was once part of a personal rivalry with John Cena surrounding the title, which led to the two men colliding at WrestleMania.
Nakamura hasn’t been able to push the title anywhere whilst he’s been Champion since the focus has been elsewhere on the brand with the pay-per-view’s coming in thick and fast, but this could be his chance to prove that he deserves to hold that Championship.

Crown Jewel goes live in just a few hours and will see the first ever “best in the world” crowned in a tournament which is set to pit the best in the company up against each other. The Universal Championship will also be decided between Brock Lesnar and Braun Strowman, whilst the SmackDown Tag Team Championships will also be on the line between The Bar and The New Day.
