Update On Matt And Jeff Hardy’s Contract Status, WWE Worried About Losing The New Day To AEW?

The Hardy Boyz’ WWE Contract Status

It was recently confirmed that Matt Hardy has been given the green light to return to WWE ahead of the Royal Rumble this weekend, after spending more than five months on the sidelines after it was revealed that he was struggling with a unique injury where his pelvis had become fused to his spine.

The Hardy’s returned to WWE back at WrestleMania 33 in Orlando in what was one of the biggest shock returns of the year, but The Wrestling Observer recently noted that Matt and Jeff had only signed a two year deal with the company with the option to re-sign for a third year.

WWE expects the two stars to re-sign, but if they don’t then their contracts will expire as part of this year’s WrestleMania season.

The New Day To All Elite Wrestling?

It’s been an interesting few weeks for WWE, after The Revival reportedly handed in their release request and they were then forced to promise The Top Guys a push in order for them to stay.

While The Revival could be set to become the main tag team on Monday Night Raw, WWE could be looking to extend this to The New Day on SmackDown Live as well, since their friendship with The Elite could lead WWE to worry about the longest reigning Tag Team Champions jumping ship.

Dave Meltzer of The Wrestling Observer recently noted that The New Day had made no secret about wanting to work with The Elite which could be one of the reasons why the company is concerned.

“AEW is logically going to use tag teams on top, rather than just taking up mid-level space, and that creates the grass is greener scenario for every WWE team, which makes The Revival situation make complete sense. WWE’s most popular gimmick team, The New Day, is already friends with the Young Bucks and have wanted to work with them for years,” he said via Ringsidenews.
