Velveteen Dream made a surprise return to NXT Television this week, as he was revealed to be the mystery participant in the triple-threat main-event for this week.
Dream took on Kushida and Cameron Grimes for an opportunity to participate in the Ladder Match for the vacant North American Championship at Takeover next week. Dream wasn’t able to win the match, as Cameron Grimes sneaked in a victory with the Cave In on Kushida.
As Dream wasn’t pinned, he will compete in the second-chance match against Finn Balor next week, with the winner joining Grimes, Bronson Reed, Damien Priest, and the winner of Ridge Holland and Johnny Gargano at the PPV.
Dream has been out of action since his loss against Adam Cole in the Parking Lot match. He also had several controversial allegations made against him in the last few months, which could be the reason behind his absence from TV.
Although nothing has been proven, there is damning evidence against the former North American Champion, which makes his return quite surprising.
Dream also turned heel for the first time in years, when he snapped after the match, and ended up attacking Kushida. Finn Balor made the save and the duo had a stare-down to end the show.
