As reported earlier, WWE is proceeding with Crown Jewel in Saudi Arabia amidst the huge backlash and mounting pressure from fans, talent and US Senators arising out of the Khashoggi murder case.

The highly controversial decision was revealed as part of WWE’s Q3 2018 Results citing “contractual obligations” and an effort to ensure “2018 guidance” stays on schedule financially” as the valid grounds on which the decision to continue with Crown Jewel in Saudi Arabia was made.

CEO of WWE Vince McMahon chose to remain silent on the matter during the Q3 earnings conference call.

McMahon said, “We’re not going to talk a lot about that. It’s a very sensitive subject these days. I think our statement pretty much said all I want to say about that today.”

Saudi Arabia was again brought up later in the call but McMahon again made it clear that he was not willing to discuss the matter. Dodging questions and remaining silent on part of Vince actually says a lot about WWE.

WWE’s arrogance to continue with Crown Jewel in the Arabian lands will cost it heavily as top star and 16-time World Champion John Cena has pulled himself out of the show. Daniel Bryan is also following Cena’s footsteps although a confirmation on his part awaits.

It was earlier reported that several WWE talent including AJ Styles are unwilling to work the show. A number of WWE producers are also reportedly reluctant to board the flight to Saudi Arabia.

If Bryan pulls out, Crown Jewel could be in serious trouble given immediate ex-Universal Champion Roman Reigns is on an indefinite leave to fight his battle against Leukemia.

It would be interesting how WWE explains Cena’s absence given he is one of the 8 Superstars scheduled to compete at the inaugural WWE World Cup at Crown Jewel.

WWE Crown Jewel will take place from the King Saud University Stadium in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on November 2, 2018
