British-born WWE NXT announcer and former WWE superstar Wade Barrett is officially a US citizen.
Barrett posted a photo of himself during his naturalization ceremony on his Twitter account.
“Today, after 13.5 years of living in this great nation, I have been granted Citizenship of the USA,” said Barrett in his caption.
He thanked America and Americans for embracing “this Englishman” and promised to support the country, except when it came to the World Cup.
“To Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. Cheers,” he concluded.
The 40-year old was born Stuart Alexander Bennett in Lancashire, England. He originally signed a developmental contract with WWE back in 2007 and was part of OVW and FCW. He was the winner of the first season of NXT in 2010 when it was a reality show.
He was the leader of the Nexus and the Corre before transitioning to becoming a singles wrestler. He was a five-time Intercontinental Champion and King of the Ring with WWE before he left in 2016.
He returned to the company in August 2020 to become a color commentator on NXT.
Barrett is currently the regular NXT color commentator alongside Vic Joseph and WWE Hall of Famer Beth Phoenix.
