Roman Reigns made a shocking announcement this week on Monday Night RAW. Reigns revealed that the Leukemia which he had managed to remit at age 22 has returned again, thus forcing him to relinquish the WWE Universal Championship.
Reigns has taken an indefinite leave of absence from WWE to fight his battle against Leukemia and that has put WWE’s championship plans in a questionable situation.
The Big Dog defeated Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam in August to capture the Universal Championship and was slated to have a lengthy title reign. However, with just a bit over 2 months into his first Universal Championship reign, Reigns has been forced to relinquish the title by a twist of fate.
At Crown Jewel, a new Universal Champion will be crowned and it could be either Brock Lesnar or Braun Strowman
WWE’s original plan was to have Reigns walk into WrestleMania 35 with the Universal Championship but that isn’t possible at the moment. It’s still unclear when The Big Dog will be back to compete again in WWE. As per speculations, it might be WrestleMania 36 (at the earliest) for Reigns to make his WWE return.
A heel champion like Strowman who has already lost his charm or a part-timer like Lesnar could very well hurt the image of the prestigious Universal Championship. WWE needs to look past these 2 Superstars and put the title around some hot talent’s waist namely Finn Balor or Dean Ambrose.
However, another Superstar lurks in the shadows and he’s none other than Drew McIntyre. The Scottish Psychopath was actually slated to receive a huge push by clashing against Reigns post-SummerSlam.
McIntyre will benefit the most if Strowman wins the title on November 2 as he will automatically enter the title picture given the feud both men have kicked off on RAW. It will also help establish McIntyre as a top babyface.
Seth Rollins deserves the most sympathy right now for he’s all alone. Reigns departed and his other Shield brother Ambrose turned on him this week on RAW.
