NXT Star Ricochet is being kept from competing in the hopes that an injury suffered last June will heal up in time for Takeover: Brooklyn 4 (August 18).
Ricochet is set to challenge Adam Cole for the NXT North American Championship.
According to David Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Ricochet is dealing with an injury sustained during the NXT tour of Europe last June.
During a match in Paris (June 11), Ricochet was tagging with Johnny Gargano against Tommaso Ciampa and Velveteen Dream. Towards the end of the match, he missed a suicide dive. While Ricochet and Gargano eventually won the match, he had to be assisted to the back afterwards.
Ricochet had been set to have a match against Velveteen Dream at NXT TakeOver: Chicago II (June 16), and there was some concern that he would not be able to wrestle. These concerns were heightened after he was pulled from another live event during the European tour.
Triple H himself addressed Ricochet’s injury during a conference call about TakeOver: Chicago II. According to Triple H, Ricochet had tweaked his shoulder and was being given time to rest as a precautionary measure.
Ricochet did wrestle and defeat Velveteen Dream at TakeOver, but has been kept out of action since. The only time he has been seen on TV recently was during the last episode of NXT. He was making his way to the ring for a match but before he could make it he was beaten down by the Undisputed Era.
As of the writing of this post, Ricochet was still in the card for TakeOver: Chicago II.
