WWE has pinned Superstars to tightly written promos since the advent of The Modern Era and despite huge backlash from fans on a daily basis, the company has time and again denied wrestlers the freedom to show their true colors on the mic. However, Paul Heyman&#8216;s new role as Executive Director of Monday Night RAW has changed the backstage landscape and things are gradually getting a lot better than they used to be.



On <a rel="noreferrer noopener" aria-label=" (opens in a new tab)" href="https://www.podcastone.com/Steve-Austin-Show" target="_blank">The Steve Austin Show</a>, RAW commentator and Hall Of Famer Jerry &#8220;The King&#8221; Lawler revealed that Superstars are now being allowed to stray away from scripted promos under Heyman&#8217;s leadership.



<blockquote class="wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow"> “Now that&nbsp;Paul Heyman&nbsp;is sort of in charge of RAW, it’s so much not the characters that are being predetermined by the writers or creative. They’re giving the guys a chance to be themselves just like [Austin was] back when [Austin] became ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin. Nobody was telling you, ‘oh, this is how it [has] got to be.’ [Austin was himself] and [he] was given that opportunity and [Austin] took it.” </blockquote>



 It&#8217;s no secret that Vince McMahon would never allow unscripted promos in the PG Era, but it&#8217;s still good to see the company allowing select Superstars&nbsp;a lot more freedom from a creative perspective.



Over the years, WWE has somewhat loosened the reins for a few Superstars, allowing them to relay the angles in their own dialogues, but Heyman&#8217;s leadership has given talents greater creative control over their characters of late.



While veteran Superstars like John Cena, Dwayne &#8220;The Rock&#8221; Johnson, Triple H, Stone Cold Steve Austin are allowed to deliver completely unscripted promos, the fact that there are talents on the current roster capable of spinning out equally entertaining and impactful dialogues on their own if given the right opportunity must be acknowledged.
