WWE and AEW went head-to-head in the first installment of ‘Wednesday Night Wars’ last night, and both the companies produced magnificent shows for the wrestling audiences.
In quite a bizarre move, WWE has gone ahead and congratulated AEW for making their debut on national television last night, and said that the fans are the real winners in this rivalry.
“Congratulations to AEW on a successful premiere. The real winners of last night’s head-to-head telecasts of NXT on USA Network and AEW on TNT are the fans, who can expect Wednesday nights to be a competitive and wild ride as this is a marathon, not a one-night sprint.”
WWE is usually known to bring dirty tricks from their bags to cut down on competition, which makes this quite a surprising statement by the company.
AEW’s move to television propelled WWE to sign a deal with USA Network, and WWE has been trying its best to keep the rival company down.
In order to stay two steps ahead of AEW, WWE even brought back pyro on their shows, which has been a refreshing change so far.
WWE is being nice to AEW, but the initial ratings for the shows aren’t being nice to WWE. After averaging over one million viewers in the first two weeks of NXT, the number could be down this week.
According to initial reports, AEW Dynamite pulled in a 0.7 rating, while NXT drew a 0.5 rating. NXT drew 0.56 and 0.4 in Nielsen ratings in the last two weeks respectively.
AEW and WWE are trying their best to keep each other down, and the announcement of action-packed episodes each week is a perfect way to keep up the momentum.
It seems like the debut episode of AEW Dynamite won this installment of Wednesday Night Wars. The actual viewership for the shows will be reported soon, stay tuned.
