Almost every top superstar in the wrestling business has set foot in WWE at least once, and the same was the case with one of the most iconic individuals in the industry, Sting. The Icon came to WWE in 2014, and stayed on the roster for a whole year, even competing for the WWE Championship in his final match for the company.



However, WWE wanted to lay hands on the Stinger long before his eventual arrival in 2014. After WCW went out of business and were bought out by WWE, the majority of their roster switched ship to WWE, apart from a few notable absentees like Sting.



On the latest episode of Grillin&#8217; JR, former talent relations executive of WWE, Jim Ross, talked about WWE&#8217;s consistent efforts to sign Sting to WWE. He said that WWE wanted to bag him and present him on a part-time schedule, to maximize the talent of the former WCW Champion.

And then subsequently when he finally got all his money from Time-Warner that he was owed. We knew he’d be healthy, he’d be refreshed, and he’d have a full bank account. He should be a happy guy. &#8220;</blockquote>



<blockquote class="wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow"> &#8220;a great attraction like The Rock fighting another great attraction like Sting at the biggest event of the year like WrestleMania for the first time ever is money. Here’s the key though. Rock knew in his heart that he could get a match out of Sting, who had been dormant for quite a while, without any problem. Full confidence. And I believe that too. So anyhow, yeah it was a topic we talked about.” </blockquote>



WWE were clearly unable to make this matchup a reality, and even lost the services of the Rock full-time post-2004. Sting eventually made it to WrestleMania in 2015, where he fought against Triple H in a losing effort.



Sting and Rock haven&#8217;t given up hopes of returning to the ring, and it may eventually end up becoming a reality on some future show of WWE.
