Finn Balor defeated Adam Cole in the opening match of this week’s NXT Super Tuesday to capture the vacant NXT Championship.
This will be Balor’s second reign with the top title on the black-and-gold brand of WWE, after his initial run with the belt back in 2015.
Balor and Cole got a chance to compete in a singles match after the Fatal Four Way Iron Man match also featuring Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa ended in a tie with Balor and Cole at two pins each.
The title became vacant after Karrion Kross was forced to relinquish the title following a separated shoulder last month.
Balor joins Samoa Joe and Shinsuke Nakamura as the only two-time NXT Champions in the brand’s nearly decade long existence.
This is Balor’s first title win in WWE in more than a year, after his stint with the Intercontinental Championship back in 2019.
Balor has also won the NXT Tag Team Championship with Samoa Joe and the Universal Championship in the past.
Balor’s initial reign with the NXT title lasted for nearly 300 days, which was a record-run for four years before being broken by Adam Cole.
With Balor back on the top of the card in NXT, it will be interesting to see if he brings back his Demon persona, which has been missing since WrestleMania 35 last year.
