Keith Lee won the NXT Championship two weeks ago at the second night of NXT Great American Bash, adding another strap to his shoulders, which already hoisted the North American Championship. Lee became the first-ever star to hold both the titles on the brand and even defended the two titles against his good friend Dominik Dijakovic last week.
However, the superstar refused to hoard both the titles and in order to give opportunities to other talents, relinquished the North American Championship this week on NXT.
William Regal accepted it and announced a Ladder Match at Takeover: XXX next month for the vacant title. Regal laid out a series of triple threats over the next few weeks, with the winners advancing to the Ladder Match.
Lee won the North American Championship in January earlier this year, defeating Roderick Strong on an episode of NXT. Lee went to defeat Strong’s Undisputed Era partner, Adam Cole, for the NXT Title earlier this month.
Strong featured in the first of the several triple threat matchups this week. Strong couldn’t advance to the Ladder Match, as Bronson Reed picked up the victory in the match, also featuring the only Triple Crown champion in NXT, Johnny Gargano.
Finn Balor, Timothy Thatcher and Dexter Lumis will compete in a triple threat match next week for the second spot in the Ladder Match.
