On March 28, 2018, WWE NXT witnessed a major announcement that in the words of NXT General Manager, William Regal “would change the course of NXT forever.” The announcement was regarding the first-ever WWE NXT North American Championship that is scheduled for “TakeOver: New Orleans” during WrestleMania 34 weekend with a Six-Man Ladder Match featuring EC3, Adam Cole, Ricochet, Killian Dain, Adam Cole, Lars Sullivan and The Velveteen Dream.

Mr. Regal made another match official for “TakeOver: New Orleans” viz. Johhny Gargano vs. Tommaso Ciampa in an Unsanctioned Match (Gargano gets his job back if he wins,will be banned from NXT if he loses)

  • The Authors of Pain defeated The Street Profits in a Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic Semi-final Match
  • Lars Sullivan defeated John Silver
  • NXT Champion Adrade “Cien” Almas (w/ Zelina Vega) brutally assaulted Aleister Black backstage along with putting Black face-first in ice water. Almas dragged Black into the arena and into the ringside area before throwing him into the ring and laying waste with a steel chair. Almas screamed that Black needs to show respect to both him and Vega.
