There are a number of Championships on the line at Payback and the first one to be defended was the United States Championship as Apollo Crews took on Bobby Lashley.
After seeing his way past The Hurt Business leader MVP back at SummerSlam, Lashley stepped up to challenge the former NXT star just a week later.
Crews paid tribute to Chadwick Boseman on his way out to the ring, but the spirit of The Black Panther wasn’t enough to see him past The Almighty.
Crews didn’t have any back up at ringside and in the end, it was MVP and Shelton Benjamin at ringside who helped to balance the scales into Lashley’s favor since their distractions helped throughout the match and later led to the former ECW Champion defeating Crews with The Full Nelson.
Even though the former NXT star tapped and the former MMA star lifted the United States Championship, the former Champion attacked Lashley following the match and made it clear that he was looking to quickly reclaim that title.
Hopefully, next time Crews will bring some friends of his own to ensure that MVP and Benjamin are neutralized if they decide to make their presence known.
