AJ Styles was last seen in the Royal Rumble last month when he took a spear from Edge and the landing separated his shoulder. The injury was such an issue for the Phenomenal One that he had to call an audible to the Rated R Superstar and was then eliminated from the match much earlier than expected and had to gingerly make his way out of the ring so that he could receive medical attention.
It was thought that Styles would be out for another week and then make his return as part of WWE’s trip to the Middle East when the company presents Super ShowDown on February 27th, but the former WWE Champion made his shock return this week on RAW.
Styles and The OC made their way to the ring to build up the match that will include Styles next week which is called the Tuwaiq Trophy Gauntlet Match which would pit AJ Styles, United States Champion Andrade, Bobby Lashley, Erick Rowan, R-Truth, and Rusev up against each other for the trophy.
Ricochet seemingly took offense to Styles’ promo and made his way out to the ring to challenge him to a match, but the former World Champion may not be completely cleared to make his return just yet since it was Karl Anderson who spoke up and took on the challenge from WWE’s superhero since he made it clear that Styles shouldn’t have to face Ricochet on his return.
Anderson was unsuccessful in his quest to defeat Brock Lesnar’s number one contender this week on RAW as he continued to roll towards his WWE Championship shot in Saudi Arabia, but the return of AJ Styles means that WWE now has many more options on RAW when it comes to the build-up to the match which will take place next week.
