Drew McIntyre retained his WWE Championship when he was able to lock Randy Orton into the backslide as part of their match at SummerSlam on Sunday night.
McIntyre was about to offer The Viper a rematch on Raw earlier in the show this week when The Legend Killer attacked and after beating McIntyre backstage, he delivered two Punt Kicks.
Following the shocking assault, Orton was interrupted on Raw by the debuting Keith Lee, who challenged The Viper to a match, a challenge that was later accepted.
Lee held his own in the match until Drew McIntyre involved himself in the match and received a third Punt Kick from the former 13-time World Champion.
It was later revealed backstage by Charly Caruso that the WWE Champion had suffered a suspected “fractured skull” following the assault from The Viper, which took him out of action just days before Payback and at present it’s unknown how long the Scottish star will be on the sidelines.
It was later made official on Raw that Orton would instead be facing The Limitless Keith Lee at Payback on Sunday night after the two men were unable to finish their match earlier tonight as part of the company’s flagship show.
