Drew McIntyre decided to face Dolph Ziggler in an Extreme Rules match this week on Raw, in a rematch from The Horror Show at Extreme Rules a few weeks ago. This time around, this was a non-title match and McIntyre was allowed to use weapons as well, which allowed the two former friends to get everything out of their system.
Ahead of the match, McIntyre announced that he accepted Randy Orton’s challenge for his WWE Championship at SummerSlam, WWE has officially confirmed this on Twitter.
Randy Orton was originally set to face Edge before The Rated R Superstar was injured a few months ago, whilst McIntyre was scheduled to face Brock Lesnar in a WrestleMania rematch, but the change of location meant that WWE was forced to make many re-writes.
Orton and McIntyre were destined to cross paths in WWE since Orton challenged the Champion in the opening segment of the night since Orton stated that he desired more than taking out WWE legends and wanted the title that he has already held a number of times in his career.
McIntyre was able to put Ziggler behind him when he delivered a Claymore through the table to end their match, but Randy Orton then appeared and hit an RKO out of nowhere to show McIntyre what awaits him at SummerSlam.
Earlier in the night, the Raw Tag Team Championship match for SummerSlam was made official when Andrade and Angel Garza picked up the win in their triple threat match. This is just the second match that’s been made official for the Biggest Party of the Summer next month.
