Randy Orton and Edge almost tore each other apart at WrestleMania in a Last Man Standing match, but it appears that this wasn’t enough to decide who the better man was. The Rated R Superstar came out on top and seemed to have exacted the revenge that he needed following The Viper’s attack back in January.
Edge and Orton made their return to Monday Night Raw last week and it became clear that this rivalry was far from over, since The Viper challenged Edge to a straight-up wrestling match at Backlash, a match that Orton believes he will win. Orton could easily be considered to be one of the greatest pure wrestlers in WWE history, while Edge stands for a much more gritty approach to the game.
Edge didn’t accept the challenge until this week on Raw where he made it clear that he was forced to work for everything that he gained in WWE while Orton was handed many of his opportunities based on who he was. The match is being billed as having the potential to be “the greatest wrestling match of all time” which makes this rivalry that little bit more interesting heading into Backlash.
The big news coming out of last week’s episode of Raw was the fact that Asuka is now the RAW Women’s Champion because Becky Lynch’s pregnancy means that she’s no longer able to wrestle. Lynch’s news meant that Nia Jax missed out on a title opportunity at Money in the Bank, but managed to fit back into the Championship picture this week when she confronted Asuka.
Asuka may have got the better of Jax in the ring, but The Irresistible Force found Kairi Sane backstage and attacked The Pirate Princess from behind, throwing her into a metal crate, which means that Asuka could be without her Tag Team partner for the remainder of her feud with Jax.
Asuka later found her friend and confronted Jax backstage, but after the former Raw Women’s Champion showed disrespect to The Empress of Tomorrow, she returned the favor by attacking her from behind. It’s obvious that this is now set to be the headline feud in the Raw Women’s Division.
