Heath Slater was released from WWE alongside a number of other employees back in April when the company was forced to make wholesale budget cuts following the COVID-19 pandemic.
Slater has since been teasing what looked like a move over to Impact Wrestling on his Twitter page as he worked out and added in some muscle mass. The former Tag Team Champion made a shock return on Monday Night RAW in tonight’s opening segment when Dolph Ziggler was set to announce the stipulation for his match with Drew McIntyre at The Horror Show at Extreme Rules.
Slater was brought in by Ziggler to confront his former friend since Slater made it clear that McIntyre had changed. Throughout his promo, the former 3MB member made it clear that when McIntyre was released from WWE he had made sure that he was there for him.
McIntyre hadn’t returned the favor and it was revealed that the current WWE Champion had forgotten all about his former friend since his WWE release.
Slater stated that he had appeared on The Bump a few weeks ago and McIntyre had said that he would petition for the WWE Championship match for him and that he wanted what he was owed. Slater then got in McIntyre’s face and pushed him until he gave him the match. It was a very short match between the two former friends as McIntyre hit the Claymore in seconds for the win.
Following the match, Ziggler turned on Slater since he wasn’t able to get the victory over his Extreme Rules opponent and McIntyre made the save. It was then a cute moment when the two friends hugged in the ring before doing the 3MB salute as Slater teared up.
At present, it’s unknown as to whether or not Slater has made his return or if this was just a one-off appearance as part of the storyline with Drew McIntyre ahead of his Championship defense at Extreme Rules on July 19th.
