Drew McIntyre named Sheamus as one of his closest friends a few months ago, but it appears that the pull of the WWE Championship was too much for the Irish star.
Sheamus turned on McIntyre following Royal Rumble and it was believed that Elimination Chamber would see Sheamus challenge his long-time friend for the WWE Championship, but WWE management had other plans.
McIntyre will instead defend his Championship inside the Elimination Chamber structure against five other former World Champions, and this week on Raw, it was decided who would enter the match last.
All six Chamber competitors took part in Raw’s main event gauntlet match which was kicked off by AJ Styles and Kofi Kingston. The likes of Jeff Hardy and Randy Orton also featured before Sheamus was the final entrant and took on Drew McIntyre.
The WWE Champion could have had Sheamus beaten several times, but in the end, it was The Irish star who hit The Brogue Kick and confirmed that he will be the final entrant in Sunday’s match.
This now arguably makes Sheamus one of the favorites in the match, since he will have to endure much less time inside the steel compared to his fellow competitors.
