It’s the night after a pay-per-view, which means that WWE needs to open up some storylines heading into the next event and bring back some familiar faces. With Survivor Series in the rearview mirror, the final pay-per-view of the year TLC is coming thick and fast and tonight’s episode of Monday Night Raw saw the build-up begin.
After being the only members of Monday Night Raw to pick up a win at Survivor Series, The Viking Raiders are yet to find challengers for their Raw Tag Team Championships at TLC, but The Authors of Pain were on hand to make their in-ring return this week where they dominated Curt Hawkins and Zack Ryder following last week’s backstage beatdown.
The former NXT Tag Team Champions could be the ones to step up and challenge The Viking Raiders in less than three weeks’ time at TLC: Tables, Ladders and Chairs. Monday Night Raw currently has strength and depth in their Tag Team Division, but Viking Raiders have defeated every team in their path in recent months having only lost to The OC in Saudi Arabia, so a showdown with AOP would be interesting.
AOP were not the only familiar faces to make their return to Raw tonight since many fans in attendance were shocked to see Matt Hardy make his way out for a match against Buddy Murphy. It may be the first show after Survivor Series, but WWE is obviously building towards Buddy Murphy vs Aleister Black at next month’s pay-per-view event and tonight Hardy was there to put over WWE’s Best Kept Secret.
Hardy was destroyed by three knee strikes from Buddy Murphy before he was able to score the pin, which later brought out Aleister Black so the two men could brawl, much to the delight of the live crowd.
