WWE announced the release of Akam and Rezar (The Authors of Pain) on their official channels and wished them all the best in their future endeavors.
Akam signed with the company in 2014, while Rezar came in a year later in 2015. The duo has performed together as The Authors of Pain since 2016 when they debuted in NXT. After two years in the black-and-gold brand, the duo moved up to the main roster in 2018 and didn’t have much success in the main roster.
They teamed up with Roderick Strong against Sanity and Undisputed Era in the first-ever War Games on NXT in November 2017 and won the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic in 2016.
Their run was plagued by injuries, which hampered their push on several occasions. Rezar suffered the latest injury in March after a torn bicep forced them out of action. The duo were making headway on RAW along with Seth Rollins and was set for a major push.
It was reported last month that WWE had dropped future plans for AOP with Seth Rollins, and they wouldn’t be aligning themselves with the Messiah after their return.
The duo won the RAW Tag Team Championships in 2018 and had a brief run with Drake Maverick as their manager. Following surgery to Akam in early 2019, they remained out of action for several months.
The duo will remain under a no-compete clause for three months and will choose their destination after that. Both the stars are on the right side of 30 and have a great future ahead of them if they manage to stay free from injuries.
