Elias is currently embroiled in a feud with Baron Corbin’s posse after he was beaten down by Bobby Lashley, Drew McIntyre, and Corbin this past week on Raw.
The Drifter has been one of the most popular stars on the roster over the past few months, but it appears that WWE hasn’t been able to find a decent creative outlet for the star, who has been bouncing around the mid-card since he was promoted to the main roster earlier this year.
Roman Reigns’ recent departure from the company left a hole on the Raw roster which is why Elias was forced to turn face and fill the void. Before Reigns was forced to relinquish the Universal title and all creative plans were changed, there were other plans for Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins moving forward.
According to Wrestlevotes, Ambrose was originally supposed to cost Seth Rollins the Intercontinental Championship and it was Elias who was set to benefit from it.
Interesting tidbit for those who like this type of thing: prior to all of RAWs creative plans going up in flames last month, the original Ambrose heel turn angle was to see him cost Rollins the IC title. Who was scheduled to win the strap you ask? Elias.

Obviously his face turn was something that came from out of nowhere and forced WWE to change their plans so The Drifter missed out on a Championship reign because of actions that were against his control.
Instead, Rollins and Ambrose will now collide in a Championship match at TLC, whilst Elias is expected to be part of a multi-man match alongside Finn Balor and Bray Wyatt since they have all seemingly been targeted by the Acting Raw General Manager over the past few weeks.
Even though none of this was Elias’ fault, it shows that the company did have plans for him to have a title reign, which means that he’s doing something right and could well be holding a title on the main roster in a few months time.
