The 2021 Royal Rumble pay-per-view kicked off with the Women’s Tag Team Championship between Charlotte, Asuka, Nia Jax, and Shayna Baszler.
The match looked to be heading in the same direction as TLC back in December before Asuka was thrown over the announce table and Ric Flair made his way out to the ring.
Flair was the distraction to allow Lacey Evans to appear at ringside and prevent Charlotte from locking in the Figure-8. The WWE Hall of Famer then ran down to Evans and handed over a ring which she placed on her hand and used to deliver a Woman’s Right to Flair to knock her out.
Nia Jax then tagged into the match and delivered a leg drop to Flair to win back the Women’s Tag Team Championships.
There have been teases that Asuka and Charlotte Flair could have a shaky alliance in recent weeks and after this loss, the RAW Women’s Champion could turn her back on Flair.
Luckily, The Queen is still part of the upcoming Women’s Royal Rumble match and could make history by becoming the first woman to win back-to-back Rumble matches.
Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler will also be part of the Women’s Royal Rumble match and all three women have the chance to become Asuka’s next challenger.
