Despite not being part of the scheduled gauntlet match at the top of the show, WWE producer Adam Pearce managed to get on the wrong side of Roman Reigns and was added to the main event.
The Universal Champion blamed Pearce for the beatdown that Kevin Owens endured last week on SmackDown and pushed for him to put himself in the gauntlet match since he had the power to make it happen.
Later in the night, Paul Heyman revealed that he had entered Adam Pearce into the main event match despite not revealing who the authority figure was that was above Pearce.
Pearce was later forced to be the final entrant in the gauntlet match where Roman Reigns and Jey Uso leveled the field for him when they took out Shinsuke Nakamura.
The likes of Rey Mysterio, Daniel Bryan, King Corbin, and Sami Zayn also competed in the match, before Nakamura came out on top and was then beat down.
Pearce refused to pin The Artist so he received a superkick from Jey Uso before the bell rang and he was dragged on top of Nakamura and will now face Roman Reigns for the Universal Championship at the Royal Rumble.
Will this result be reversed by the higher SmackDown authority in the coming weeks?
