WWE shocked the world back in October when The New Day was split as part of the WWE Draft. While Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods took the Tag Team Championships over to Raw, Big E remained on SmackDown alone.
At TLC: Tables, Ladders, and Chairs this past weekend, The New Day lost the Raw Tag Team Championships to The Hurt Business, but this week on SmackDown, Big E was able to pick up a solo Championship when he defeated Sami Zayn.
Big E was finally handed his Intercontinental Championship shot in a Lumberjack match and it appeared that everyone at ringside was backing the former Tag Team Champion to pick up the win.
Zayn was his own worst enemy in the end when he tried to exit the arena and was brought back by the lumberjacks.
Big E then picked up the victory following a Big Ending and celebrated in the ring with The Street Profits, Chad Gable, Otis, and Apollo Crews.
While the WWE Universe has been outspoken online about Big E in recent weeks since it appeared as though his singles push had been scrapped, this could mean that the new Intercontinental Champion could have a bright 2021 ahead.
