WWE SmackDown: Jeff Hardy Returns, Helps Daniel Bryan Advance to the Intercontinental Championship Tournament Finals

After Jeff Hardy and Elias were taken out of their respective semi-final matches in the Intercontinental Championship tournament this week on SmackDown, Adam Pearce announced that there would be a battle royal to reveal Bryan’s opponent in his semi-final match.

AJ Styles didn’t want to compete and took his place in the final automatically, while Bryan took on Sheamus in the main event of this week’s show.

The two men were familiar with one another since it was The Irish star who handed Bryan his 18 second World Championship loss back at WrestleMania 28. This week, the two men put on another classic but it was Daniel Bryan who came out on top.

Jeff Hardy shockingly made his return at the end of the match and distracted Sheamus so that Bryan could deliver a knee to the face for the victory. Hardy then attacked Sheamus following the match, but there was no reason given for Hardy’s return at the end of the show.

AJ Styles will now take on Bryan in the finals of the tournament to crown a new Intercontinental Champion. Sami Zayn was stripped of the title a few weeks ago when he failed to appear on SmackDown and defend his Championship.
