The New Day was split as part of the 2020 WWE Draft which meant that the trio was forced to compete in their farewell match this week.
Ahead of their six-man Tag Team match against Cesaro, Sheamus, and Shinsuke Nakamura, the three men were afforded the opportunity to cut an emotional promo.
Big E, Kofi Kingston, and Xavier Woods talked about some of their best memories of the past six years before Kingston revealed that the group actually saved his WWE career.
The former WWE Champion said that he was admitting it for the first time on TV, but back in 2012, he was in a place where he didn’t know if he wanted to continue to wrestle. It was around that time that Woods and Big E approached him with the idea for The New Day which later became a reality in 2014.
Kingston has since become a seven-time Tag Team Champion as a member of the group as well as the longest-reigning Tag Team Champion in history.
This pales in comparison to the fact that Kingston was pushed into the main event picture of WWE as part of last year’s WrestleMania and walked out WWE Champion.
Kingston and Woods are now Raw Tag Team Champions and will battle it out on the red brand while Big E will be forced to remain on SmackDown alone.
