WWE SmackDown: Sami Zayn Makes His Return as Intercontinental Champion

Sami Zayn refused to return to WWE following his Intercontinental Championship defense against Daniel Bryan back at WrestleMania 36. Zayn was stripped of the Championship back in May after he refused to return and defend the title and has been on the sidelines ever since.

The fact that Roman Reigns was able to return to the company earlier this week meant that Sami Zayn was also finally able to make his return, as the former Champion interestingly showed up following Jeff Hardy’s victory over Shinsuke Nakamura.

Zayn was still holding the Intercontinental Championship even though Jeff Hardy now holds the title.

Zayn made it clear that he believes he’s still the Champion before staring down with AJ Styles and kicking Hardy in the face.

In a backstage segment, Zayn went on to state that he attacked Hardy because both The Charismatic Enigma and Styles had been fraudulent Champions and he was here to right those wrongs.

Could this mean that there will be a triple threat match for the Championship at Payback this Sunday night? Or with Styles claiming that he can’t be medically cleared at present, could this be a one-on-one match where the real Champion is decided?
