WWE Superstar Sami Zayn will be out of action for the rest of 2018. According to WWE, Zayn just underwent a surgery in Birmingham, Alabama this week and it appears that the injury status is worse than what the management had earlier expected.
Zayn suffered two torn rotator cuffs, one on each shoulder. The right shoulder injury is something that Kevin Owen’s Guardian Angel had been dealing for quite some time but the left shoulder began to create issues. As per WWE, Sami’s left shoulder hasn’t been the same since the Superstar went under the knife a while back to treat the shoulder and that things have gone downhill since then.
According to Zayn, this week’s surgery was on the right shoulder but he will again go under the knife for the left shoulder in about six to seven weeks.
This makes Zayn miss the remainder of 2018, but the Monday Night RAW Superstar expects to be back in action during the first quarter of 2019. He said, “I think timeline wise, I should be ready in time for WrestleMania, so fingers crossed.”
It will be interesting to see how the WWE Creative decides to play things out for Kevin Owens. With Zayn sidelined for the rest of this year, Owens has no one but to rely on himself unless he can coax someone to be in his corner who will be ready to take up the role of Zayn and become his “partner in crime”. Also, Zayn’s expected return before WrestleMania opens up a wide range of opportunities for WWE who might look into revamping the ginger head’s gimmick thereby turning Zayn a babyface and giving the WWE Universe a Kevin Owens vs. Sami Zayn at WrestleMania 35.
