Wrestling Observer Newsletter’s Dave Meltzer is being subject to a lot of backlash from fans and several WWE Superstars from the past and present after SmackDown Live Superstar Peyton Royce vented on Twitter upon hearing Meltzer’s comments on her on the August 9 edition of Wrestling Observer Radio.

Meltzer noted that he was a fan of the IIconics when they were in NXT and went on to say that Royce was more attractive in NXT before her “transformation”, diplomatically referring to the plastic surgery that she was rumored to undergo in January.

Meltzer didn’t hold back and added that Royce “was a lot lighter” in NXT. This turns out to be a reference to the IIconics star lacking breast implants during her NXT days, however, many fans assumed that it was the Superstar’s weight that Meltzer was talking about.

Meltzer: The IIconics got boring-ed out. They’re another one. I thought they had a cool act in NXT, and on the main roster? I don’t get a thing out of them. I don’t think their promos are particularly good, their wrestling isn’t good. I think they even like – I think Peyton Royce’s transformation to look more attractive. I don’t know, I don’t want to say. But I don’t think that…

Alvarez: She was more attractive in NXT?

Meltzer: I thought so, yes. To me, yes. I would say so. But that’s neither here nor there.

Alvarez: No one’s saying she’s unattractive, by the way, everybody.

Meltzer: I know, no $#!+. Yeah, I didn’t say it at all. But I don’t think, she doesn’t stand out to me – when she was in NXT she did…

Alvarez: You know, one thing I’ve noticed about NXT is…

Meltzer: She was… she was a lot lighter…

Royce responded highlighting Meltzer’s criticism as an example of how women are body-shamed in the society leading to a negative impact on them.

WWE Superstars from soon joined Royce and lashed out at Meltzer on Twitter.

Meltzer tried to neutralize the situation by issuing an apology but that didn’t prove to be of much help for the journalist. Instead, he faced backlash yet again, this time from the men’s locker room.
