WWE can possibly uplift Roman Reigns’ status by putting him in a dream match against his cousin Dwayne “The Rock” Johsnon at WrestleMania 35.
A recent rumor suggests that The Rock strongly intends to perform at WrestleMania and that WWE wants to book him against Reigns in an epic dream match.
According to Ringside News, Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter notes that although there is no official confirmation regarding the dream match, the belief is that a match between the two Samoan stars would be perfect for storyline purpose.
Meltzer believes The Rock and Reigns would share superior in-ring chemistry having known each other all their lives. The Great One could boost Reigns’ image in the WWE Universe, in the same way he helped his cousin win the 2015 Royal Rumble.
It’s no secret that WWE have been trying to establish The Big Dog as the face of the company for three years now but the WWE Universe continues to boo him in every arena he shows up at even though Reigns is a top babyface.
Meltzer said: “The idea being to share the ring at WrestleMania in front of — this Newark WrestleMania too so it’s a legitimate 80,000 people. Not that the difference between 60 and 75,000 means anything but it’s still bigger being a New York WrestleMania.
“So you know, knowing his mentality and stuff I can see that I feel that could be something to appeal to him you know.
“Again, for Roman Reigns if they’re wanting to get Roman Reigns over big, The Rock will do the job for him that’s not even a question and in their minds if they want to get Roman Reigns over as this big superstar you know that’s a match that makes sense from everyone’s perspective.
“I’m not saying they’re going to do it, I have not heard anything from the company saying that but when that match was thrown at me I started thinking it makes sense from every perspective.”
Although Johnson and Reigns are not biological cousins, they share a special family bond through their Samoan roots. Reigns’ grandfather, Reverend Amituana’i Anoa’i declared Johnson’s grandfather, Peter Maivia as his blood brother – something that goes deep in it’s roots within the Samoan heritage.
The Rock had expressed his intention to square off against Reigns in the past, after assisting his cousin to win the 2015 Royal Rumble.
Reigns is set to face “The Beast” Brock Lesnar for the WWE Universal Championship at SummerSlam on August 19, 2018. It would be the fourth championship encounter between The Beast and The Big Dog.
